Year 2 Learning Log

Welcome to the Year 2 Learning Log

Here you will be able to look at pictures and read about the fun we have had this week. Each week there will be ideas about how to continue your learning at home.

These are some things you could do any time at home to help you learn....

Read your school book and anything else which interests you regularly!

Practise writing... You could write shopping lists, invitations, letters or even a diary so you can remember all the fun things you do on the weekends!

Practise spelling any words you find tricky; especially red words...

Practice writing your numbers and counting anything you can! Look for numbers when you are out and about, try adding up amounts in a shop or write your own sums - you could even try paying for things in a shop to learn about money!

Year 2 pupils will have Big Maths tests each Friday which they will bring home for you to practise at home. These tests do not need to come back to school - we will send new tests each Friday to see if pupils can beat their timed scores!

Please look out for special messages and reminders that will be posted on this page each week!

Friday 12th January

Welcome back to school – we hope you all had a wonderful break!

This week we have been very busy sharing our Christmas news. We all wrote a lovely piece of work all about our Christmas holidays, making sure we used power words and interesting punctuation. In maths we have had fun measuring. We have been measuring height, length and width using centimetres and metres. We have been measuring capacity using millilitres and litres. We made predictions before measuring carefully and next week we will use this information to make bar charts.

This term we are very excited to be having some extra special Forest School sessions with an outside agency. They will be coming in on Mondays to work with Year 2. Please ensure all pupils have forest School kit in school on Mondays, however please note the timetable may change so pupils may only have a Forest School session every other week.

Next week we will begin planning our new topic. We will be learning about our local area and celebrating exciting events such as Chinese new year, story telling week and of course St David’s Day.

We will be enjoying a walk to the village on Tuesday 23rd January. Pupils can wear their normal uniform. If anybody has a current DBS check and would like to accompany us please do let us know.

Many Thanks,

Mrs Summers
