Friday 11th October 2019

We have had such a brilliantly busy week!  We talked about Harvest and about giving Thanks for the food that we have to eat.  We have spent lots of time exploring the amazing,  large pumpkin that Beth and her Mum brought in for us.  We painted pictures of it and we researched pumpkins further, using books and iPads.  Yesterday we cut the top off the pumpkin and we were amazed at how many seeds were inside.  Some of us were engrossed in squeezing and squashing the insides of it!  We used some of the pumpkin for our Year 1 Pumpkin Bake Off.  Have a look on Twitter for more information on our Bake Off, we had so much fun!

Thank you all for your kind donations of food for the local food bank this Harvest time.

In Forest School, we played a memory game and we were amazing at it.  We found natural objects to lay on the floor and when our backs were turned, an object was taken away.  We were very quick at noticing which object was missing.  We also enjoyed listening to a couple of chapters of The Twits on the field.

In Literacy we have been looking at Newspapers.  We talked about the Headline, Sub-Heading and columns.  Most of us were able to find these different parts of an article in the newspaper.  We then had a go at planning our own Newspaper article.

In Maths we practised counting objects out carefully and then splitting them into equal groups.  We found some different ways of making equal groups with some numbers.  We also had a go at doubling numbers up to 10.  This was quite tricky, but we will continue to practise in class.

Thank you for helping your child to wear something yellow to school yesterday and thanks for your kind donations for the Young Minds charity.  We were very sensible and thoughtful when talking about how to keep our body and brains healthy.

A few reminders...

  • Next Tuesday is 'Shwmae Day'.  Children may come to school wearing Welsh colours (red, white and green)
  • Please can ALL reading books, class library books and yellow reading records be returned to School on your child's reading day.
  • Please can children bring a change of clothes (especially trousers) and wellies for our Forest School sessions on Tuesdays
  • Please can all children have PE kit in school at all times.  Our PE day has been changed to a Friday for the rest of the term but this may change again.
