Friday 14th September
This week we have been very busy planning our topic ‘Where are we?’ ‘Ble ydy ‘ni?’ which is going to be all about us, looking after the environment and the people around us and thinking about celebrations around us such as Harvest festival. We all shared our ideas and these are now displayed on our Learning Journey ready for the next term of exciting learning!
Thank you for your donations of plants, seeds and compost; we will be using these next week to develop our Garden Centre role play area.
This week we have been learning how to work independently in our classroom and how to record our work… we are doing a really great job. We have even been learning how to use our own username and password to log onto the computers.
In maths we have been learning how to find the difference between two numbers and we have also been learning to understand what each digit represents in a number for example 72 = 7 tens and 2 units, or 70 + 2!
This week we also had our first Year 2 'Big Maths' Tests. One test is timed and pupils have 90 seconds to answer as many sums correctly as possible in this time. This means that for the first few weeks scores will possibly be very low... please do not worry! We will continue to practise these quick fire questions throughout the whole year and you will see an increase in speed over the year. We send these tests home each week for your reference and for extra practise if you would like to do some. These tests do not need to be returned. If you have any questions please feel free to come and see me.
Next week we are looking forward to our first Forest School session on Monday – please remember your kit!
