Year 3 and 4 Learning Log

Friday 14th September

This week has been very exciting! The Year 3 and 4 children have been split up into their afternoon groups for science, welsh, topic work and independent challenge time. We have also been busy working on place value in maths. Next week, we will be learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.

This week, all of the children have been sent home with homework linked to the work they have done in maths lessons. Please ensure it is handed in by next Wednesday morning.

All the children in year 3 and 4 have now been sent home with a reading book. Children are encouraged to change their home reading books once every week.

Your child has also been given a set of spellings to take home with them this week. Please support your child in learning up to 10 of these words a week. They will have a test on a Friday. When the children need new spellings, they should let their teacher know.

If you have any queries about anything, please don't hesitate to contact one of the year 3 and 4 team.

Many thanks,

Mr Edwards/MissKirman/Mrs Taylor

General Information

All children in year 3 and 4 will be sent home with either Maths or Literacy homework every week, starting on Friday 14th September. This should be completed weekly and returned by the following  Wednesday so it can be checked before new homework is set.

This week the children were tested on their spellings. The results from these tests have been analysed and a spelling list in letter patterns will be sent home with your child. Please encourage your child to learn their spellings at home. Your child will also be learning these spellings in school and will have a test with their partner every Friday. They will then be given more spellings if necessary. You may find that your child is already able to spell some of the words in their list. If this is the case they should just highlight it to show they don't need to learn it. It is up to your child to tell the teacher if they need new spellings as children will learn at different rates.

Year 4

Every other Tuesday afternoon (starting onTuesday 18th September) year 4 children will be taking part in swimming sessions at Caldicot Leisure Centre. The year 4 children will also have a PE lesson which will take place in the opposite week.

Year 3

Year 3 pupils will have PE on Tuesday afternoons. Please ensure your child has their PE kit on this day.

We now undertake Guided Reading in class. This involves the whole classs reading from the same text with a focus on specific children each day.

Over the next few weeks all of the year 3 and 4 children will be sent home with a reading book as well as a reading record.

As we are a Healthy School it is importnt thst all children bring in healthy snacks for break time. Such as fruit, vegetables, crackers and cheese, raisons etc.

Drinks for during the day should be in a clear bottle with water only.

If you have any quiries about anything, please don't hesitate to contact one of the year 3 and 4 team.

Many thanks,

Mr  Edwards/Miss Kirkman/Mrs Taylor
