Year 3 and 4

Croeso! Welcome to our year 3 and 4 page.

Please check the Learning Log section for weekly updates and homework activities for year 3 and 4. This will be updated every Friday.

All of the children in year 3 and 4 will be sent home with either Maths or Literacy homework every week. This should be completed weekly and returned by the following Wednesday so it can be checked before new homework is set.

All of the children in year 3 and 4 have been tested on their spellings. The results from these tests have been analysed and a spelling list in letter patterns has been sent home with your child. Please encourage your child to learn their spellings at home. Your child will also be learning these spellings in school and will have a test with their partner every Friday. They will then be given more spellings if necessary. You may find that your child is already able to spell some of the words in their list. If this is the case they should just highlight it to show they don't need to learn it. It is up to your child to tell the teacher if they need new spellings as children will learn at different rates.

Year 4

Every other Tuesday afternoon the year 4 children will be taking part in swimming sessions at Caldicot Leisure Centre. The year 4 children will also have a PE lesson which will take place in the opposite week.

Year 3

Year 3 pupils will have PE on Tuesday afternoons. Please ensure your child has their PE kit on this day.

We now undertake Guided Reading in class. This involves the whole classs reading from the same text with a focus on specific children each day. Where there is the need, children will read to the teacher on a 1:1 basis.

All of the children in year 3 and 4 have been sent home with a reading book and a home reading record. Feel free to add comments about your child's reading in their yellow home records. Reading books should be returned every week. The children are encouraged to choose a reading book from the library and tick their name off a list, so that the teacher knows they have changed their book that week.

Healthy School

We are a healthy school! Morning snacks should be either fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers or rice cakes. Drinks for during the day should be in a clear bottle with water only. School water bootles can be purchased from the school office.

We are always trying to develop and improve our indoor and outdoor environments and we rely heavily on your kindness. If you are ever having a 'clear out' please think of us - we are always grateful for your donations!

If you have any quiries about anything, please don't hesitate to contact one of the year 3 and 4 team.

Many thanks,

Mr  Edwards/Miss Kirkman/Mrs Taylor
