Week 3 - Friday 20th September
What another busy week the children have had. They are settling in really well.
This week in their group activities, the children have been learning about:
counting numbers; listening and responding to weekend news; recognising ‘m’ and mark making on white boards/shaving foam; learning how to say and respond to ‘who are you?’ in Welsh (pwy wyt ti?/dw i’n …).
This week we have begun to do a Baseline assessment on each child. This is done within the first six weeks of them starting Nursery. It is done in a play based manner, so that we can see where each child is at the start of their educational journey. This week the children have been showing us how clever they are at holding a pencil and drawing a picture of themselves. Have a look at our This is Me display in the cloakroom. What amazing artists we have in Nursery!
All children should have brought home a library book this week to share with their grown up. We hope you enjoyed your story time together. Don’t forget to return your child’s story book on their library day so they can bring a new one home. This will also help to make sure that we have enough books for all of the children too. Just a reminder, the library days are:
Tuesday – Mrs Somersall’s group
Wednesday – Miss Morrison’s group
Thursday – Mrs Davies’ group
We will be holding our first Stay and Play session of Friday 27th September. Please join us any time from 10am onwards for the morning session and 1.30 onwards for the afternoon session. Any donations of shop bought cakes would be gratefully received. We will be also having a collection for Macmillan. Look out for future Stay and Play dates. We will let you know the rest of the dates for this term when we have received confirmation of dates from outside agencies.
Just a reminder, we are waiting for the last few messages, for your children’s Learning Journeys, to add to their books. We have already had some ‘Golden Moments’ and ‘Proud Moments’ too. Don’t forget to take more forms as you need them; they are outside Nursery, please help yourself. If you haven’t had chance to complete them yet, just send them in when you can. It’s a lovely way to participate in your child’s learning journey with us.
We will start our baking station next week, where the children can come and bake cakes/biscuits/breads, if they wish. Now your children are enrolled into Nursery, you should have received logon details for ParentPay so that you can pay in snack money. Please speak to the office if you haven’t received your details yet. Snack money not only poys for the children’s food for snack, but helps to pay for the ingredients to bake with. Thank you for helping us to continue to do these fantastic activities, which provide your child with a wealth of independent learning opportunities. You can pay your £1.50 weekly or in monthly/termly amounts. There are 14 weeks for Nursery in this term.
Finally we will be making a Family Board in our snack bar area for the children to look at and talk about, with their friends, at snack time. We would love for you to send in a family picture to be part of this display! You could also add a little caption if you wish to let us Know who everyone is..
