Welcome to the Reception SW Learning Log

We hope you will find this page a useful point of contact to find out what we have been doing in school over the past week.  Please check it every Friday afternoon when it is updated.  We will also post other information which may be of use to you.

Friday 9th November

Week 9

We hope you had a restful half term.  Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term.  This week we have sorted out parts for the Nursery & Reception Christmas play – A Wriggly Nativity.  Your child should have brought home a letter with more information about what part they are, and their lines to learn.  Please feel free to ask a member of the Reception team if you have any questions.

In Read, Write Inc we have been revising the sounds we have already learnt and have continued learning new sounds r,j and v, if ready.  We have been involved in recognising and writing the sounds, as well as taking part in some word time activities which have involved us in blending the sounds we know to make words.  We have continued using magnetic boards and letter tiles to help us.

Our literacy activities have involved us in telling a partner about our holiday news.  The children then had a go at drawing a picture of what they did, and then they had a go at writing about their picture.

In Maths we have been learning about measuring.  The children used large play blocks to measure how tall they are.  They also had a go at measuring each other with strips of paper and then put themselves in order from shortest to tallest.

As part of their My Time activities the children drew pictures of the bread from our clean hands experiment and labelled their drawings.

In Welsh this week we have been revising all the different language patterns the children have been learning.  The children are trying really hard to use these phrases throughout the day.

On Friday the children watched a CBeebies clip about Remembrance.  They then listened to the Year 5/6 children in assembly telling us all about why we take part in Remembrance Day.  Afterwards the children went down to Forest School and took part in making fireworks with autumn leaves - take a look at Twitter; they had lots of fun!

We will also be taking part in Children in Need on Friday 17th November.  Children are invited to dress up in something spotty and bring a minimum £1 donation to school. They do not need to wear Forest School clothes on this day.  We will also be having a spotty cake sale after school, as well as hair spraying to raise more funds towards this good cause.  Any cake donations will be gratefully received.
